Newslines, March 26, 2026 Bavorsky Express Enters a New Era

From December 13, 2026, the well-established Bavorsky Express route between Praha and München will enter a new phase as Leo Express takes over operations from Arriva. Long a key cross-border link, the service—listed in Table 76 of the European Rail Timetable—will continue to connect major centres including Plzeň, Regensburg and Landshut.

While not a new route, the change of operator brings a refreshed onboard experience and a renewed focus on international connectivity. Leo Express plans to run eight trains a day over the 439-kilometre route, maintaining a regular two-hourly interval and preserving the line’s role as a reliable artery between the Czech Republic and Bavaria.

The service will be operated using upgraded Intercity rolling stock, capable of speeds up to 200 km/h. Passengers can expect air-conditioned carriages, Wi-Fi, power sockets, and an onboard audiovisual system, alongside a range of refreshments including hot and cold drinks. Facilities for bicycles, prams, and travellers with reduced mobility will also be provided.

Fares will start from CZK 219, with a range of ticketing options available. In addition to Leo Express’s own fares, passengers will be able to use integrated regional tariffs, as well as InterRail and Eurail passes, ensuring continuity for regular and international travellers alike.

This transition marks an evolution rather than a reinvention—retaining the strengths of a long-standing service while introducing a new operator’s approach to comfort and connectivity.
