Newslines, March 25, 2026 News from Spain and Portugal

Rail passengers across Spain and northern Portugal should note several timetable changes and engineering updates over the coming months.

In eastern Spain, the Zaragoza – Teruel – Sagunt – València line (Table 670) is now expected to reopen by the end of April, following a prolonged closure that began in March 2025. The project, originally scheduled for completion in November 2025, was delayed by adverse weather conditions that triggered landslides, along with the unexpected discovery of archaeological remains during the works. Its reopening will restore an important regional link between Aragón and the Mediterranean coast.

Further timetable revisions come into effect from May 20, when Renfe adjusts selected Galicia – Madrid services (Table 680). The 11:15 Alvia departure from Lugo will be significantly retimed to 05:18, arriving in Madrid at 10:13. Meanwhile, two AVE services from Madrid to Vigo will see altered departures, moving from 07:14 and 16:05 to 08:25 and 15:32 respectively. In addition, the 08:25 Avlo service from Madrid to A Coruña will depart earlier at 06:55. These changes are likely to affect journey planning, particularly for early morning and long-distance travellers.

Cross-border journeys will also be impacted. Engineering works between Valença and Vigo will disrupt Porto – Vigo “Celta” services for a full year, from April 6, 2026 to April 7, 2027. During this period, buses will replace trains over the affected section, extending journey times on this popular international route.
