International

EC 146 / 143 Tisza Wien – Budapest – Za´hony – Chop has been extended to and from Uzhhorod (Table 96). This has been made possible after European standard gauge track (1435mm) was laid between Chop and Uzhhorod.

It has been confirmed that the thrice weekly Nightjet service Paris – Wien (NJ 469/468), together with its Paris – Berlin portion (NJ 40469/40427), will sadly be withdrawn from December 14 (Tables 30 and 32).

Great Britain

The Isle of Wight railway between Ryde and Shanklin will be closed from October 18 for two weeks so that vital infrastructure improvement work can take place. This will be followed by a further two week closure affecting the section between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde St Johns. Rail replacement bus services will be provided (Table 106).

A reduced service between London Waterloo and Exeter is still in operation with trains only running every two hours between Yeovil Junction and Exeter (Table 109). An amended timetable is still in place on the Cumbrian Coast Line between Barrow and Carlisle, although it is now only the short section between Corkickle and Whitehaven that is operated by bus (Table 157).

Italy

Long-term engineering work between Bologna and Prato affects services in Table 620. Many trains will simply be replaced by buses on the affected section, although a limited number of trains will be diverted via other routes. Further details can be found on page 577.

Spain

All five avlo services between Madrid and Barcelona were withdrawn from September 8 and replaced by AVE branded trains (Table 650). Spanish Railways has introduced two additional Regional Expre's services in each direction between Zaragoza and Castejo´n de Ebro. One train pair is extended to and from Pamplona / Irun˜a (Table 654).

The line between Zafra and Huelva was reopened on September 15 following more than two years of engineering work. The journey time between the two stations has been reduced from 3 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 49 minutes. We have created a separate panel in Table 677 to show the new schedules.

Portugal

Following the completion of engineering work, trains are once again
running between Coimbra B and Guarda. Updated schedules can be
found in Table 692.

Austria

The important international route between Wien and Bratislava via Marchegg will fully reopen from October 11 following the completion of electrification and route upgrade work. Table 996 has been updated with the new timings from this date.

Slovakia

Following the opening of the new standard gauge line in Ukraine (see also the International news item above), trains Ex 617/618 Bratislava – Kosˇice have been extended to and from Uzhhorod (Table 1195).

Latvia

ViVi have recast the service between Riga and Tukums (Table 1836) to provide a standard hourly service for most of the day. However, most services on the short section between Tukums 1 and Tukums 2 are now operated by bus.

International news from December 2025

We have included winter versions of Tables 56, 58, 73, 82 and 99 on pages 588 to 591 showing proposed services from December 14. Table 18 (Winter): The low cost Ouigo service between Paris and Brussels will be amended; three daily services will remain but with changes to the calling pattern. Two services per day will call at Creil (instead of the current three) and St Quentin will be served by the morning northbound train to Brussels and the evening return service to Paris.

Table 30 (Winter): The Paris to Berlin ICE service will be rerouted to serve Frankfurt Hbf (instead of Frankfurt Su¨d) and will then continue via Erfurt and Halle.

Table 56 (Winter): Two new daily Leipzig – Krako´w EuroCity services will be introduced, using the German / Polish border crossing between Horka and Węgliniec, one of which will be extended to Przemys´l.

One additional Berlin-Warszawa-Express service, numbered EC 43/42, will be introduced meaning there will be a two-hourly service throughout the day between the two capitals. Table 58 (Winter): An additional Mockava – Warszawa service will be introduced. Numbered EC 146/145, it will operate as a through train to and from Szczecin. We are awaiting confirmation of connections from and to Vilnius.

Table 73 (Winter): ICE 101 Dortmund – Basel is extended to Brig and ICE 100 Basel – Dortmund starts back from Interlaken Ost. Two other services to and from Germany will serve Brig and three additional ICE services will serve Chur.

Table 82 (Winter): Two additional pairs of EuroCity services will be introduced between Zurich and Milano increasing the daily service between the two cities to thirteen train pairs. One of these additional pairs will extend to Firenze via Bologna. Additionally EC 18/17 Zurich – Milano will be extended to Livorno via Genova from March to October, running as EC 33/32.

Table 99 (Winter): An additional EuroCity service, EC 307/306, will be introduced between Graz and Wrocław, while the existing EC 303/302 train between these cities will be extended to and from Poznan´. An additional EuroCity service, EC 204/203 Prater, will also be introduced between Wien and Krako´w. Leo Express services between Praha and Krako´w will be recast and, from March 1, two additional services will operate between Praha and Warszawa via Katowice.

EN 407/406 Chopin Mu¨nchen – Warszawa will gain additional through cars operating between Mu¨nchen and Przemys´l (EN 417/416 Carpatia). Other key international developments from the December timetable change include: The opening of the Koralmbahn high-speed line between Wien and Klagenfurt will see the Wien to Venezia journey time reduced by 30 minutes to 7 hours and 10 minutes. A new ICE service will be introduced between Mu¨nchen and Graz via Klagenfurt. We are awaiting confirmation of a two-hourly EuroCity service between Budapest and Beograd, two of which will be extended from and to Wien. 

A new Chełm – Warszawa – Ło´dz´ – Poznan´ – Berlin overnight service is proposed, combining with a Przemys´l – Poznan´ – Berlin portion. We understand a new Basel – Malmo¨ NightJet service will be introduced from April 1.
