From March 29, passengers travelling between Vilnius and Kaunas will benefit from a faster, more convenient journey as LTG Group’s passenger operator, LTG Link, introduces a new non-stop express service.
The Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius route is one of the busiest in Lithuania, carrying around 2 million passengers annually — a third of LTG Link’s total ridership of nearly 6 million last year. Recognising the strategic importance of this corridor and the continued growth in demand, the new express service aims to enhance both speed and overall travel experience.
Unlike existing services, which may stop at stations such as Lentvaris, Vievis, Kaišiadorys, and Palemonas — with between 3 and 15 stops per journey — the express train runs directly between the two cities. This reduces journey times to as little as 59 minutes, compared with the usual 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 20 minutes.
Kristina Meidė, CEO of LTG Link, emphasised that the service is a key step in encouraging more passengers to choose rail over road, while strengthening the railway’s role as the backbone of a modern, sustainable transport network.
To further improve comfort, seat reservations will be introduced in both 1st and 2nd class, while passengers holding flexible tickets will have access to designated seating areas. An expanded onboard menu will offer hot drinks and more substantial meal options.
Tickets for the new express service went on sale on March 13, with dynamic pricing allowing those who book early to secure the best fares.
